Archive updates

I’ve just added another month of transcripts to my archive. Reading what fun Wheely had exploring the pods with other explorers stopped me from continuing for a while…

I also found some of my Dutch translations of documents in the cavern. I had almost forgotten about those. They have been put back on-line now.

Activity measured in pellets

Thanks to Dr. Watson and JWPlatt, statistics on the number of pellets dropped are once again available in the Pellet Points neighbourhood. The return of so many explorers becomes even more clear in those statistics! That is why I decided to graph the data, like I used to do. I present to you, the pellet graph for February:

Pellet points - February 2010

Like on all my previous graphs, the pellet points are calculated relative to November 5th, 2007. Why? That was simply the first day of which Dr. Watson shared his data. The 100% mark corresponds to the 299 pellet points reached on that day. (For your information, the record is 882 points, reached in one of the very first days Er’cana was released.)

Some notable things:

  • In the beginning of the month, there was just a hand full of pellets dropped by the explorers that had stayed in the cavern.
  • When the news spread of the DRC’s visit to the Cavern and explorers returned to D’ni, pellet points increased tremendously.
  • The daily average almost reaches 100%.  As you can see on my last graph, the daily average has been below 100% since February, 2008. I assume that the 100% mark was reached somewhere in the past few days after two years.
  • The total average does not seem to take the pellets dropped in 2007 and 2008 into account.

Archive update

I have added some new transcripts to my archive. Now all transcripts have been archived up to the release of the Museum and Negilahn. I should make a habit of adding a few transcripts every once in a while, or the job will never be done. It may seem like I just copy transcripts from wherever I can find them, which is partly true, but a lot of time goes into comparing chat-logs and verifying dates and locations.

I also added some new features: you can now filter the transcripts by persons and most pages feature breadcrumbs to keep track of where you are. I hope people find it useful, if not, at least I do. :)

By the way, Tweek also started an archive at his new website. Hopefully the history of the cavern and our part in it will reach more explorers that way, so that we can learn from the past.

The Gathered

I saw many old friends in the cavern the past few days. More and more explorers seem to arrive each day – even new explorers who experience the Call for the first time. Chatter echoes throughout Ae’gura, smiles are on all faces… Uru again.

It’s good to be back.

By the way, my new KI# is 33861.

Ahead

I was about to enter the tunnels yesterday, when sleep overtook me. I didn’t know if there were resting places in the tunnels, so I decided to sleep in the Eder Tomahn near the start of the tunnels. When I awoke, I heard something… At first I hoped it would be a fellow explorer, but the sounds didn’t seem to come from a human. I opened my eyes and I think I saw a Bahro linking away. I’m not sure if it was really there or if I imagined it, but I decided to continue the journey immediately. Not that I dislike the Bahro – after all, most of them defended the explorers -, but I didn’t feel comfortable knowing that I was being watched.

I had walked for quite some time, using a replica of Aitrus’ map as a guide, when I observed an orange glow that became more intense as I walked ahead. A river of flowing water blocked my way. A bridge was constructed over it, but it didn’t seem a safe construction at all, and the boiling lava left nothing to my imagination… if the bridge collapsed… I probably wouldn’t have enough time to link to Relto. I considered my possibilities and decided to go back. It was a shame not to reach the City, but I had gone a long way already and I didn’t want to risk my life. It was an achievement nonetheless.

I retreated to the nearest Eder Tomahn, where there was a Nexus book. Of course, I could have linked to Relto, but I could have done that all the time! No… I was still determined to go to D’ni the old way.

When I had arrived in the Nexus and put my hand in the terminal as I had done so many times before, nothing happened. And then it dawned upon me: my KI wasn’t there! I had been so busy preparing for the journey that I forgot one of the most important things. I carried supplies and tools with me, but I had completely forgotten my KI – it was still on the surface.

Fortunately I did not forget my Relto book or I would have been in serious trouble. It was my plan to visit Ae’gura before going to Relto, but I had no choice.

It’s good to be back on Relto. I’ve missed the place. However, Relto will have to wait, I’m going to Gahreesen now to see if that old dispenser is still doing its work. I need to get a KI first and then… to D’ni!
